AMA Private Limited, the pioneer of Airfield Lighting in
India is executing the most prestigious projects ever at Hyderabad International
Airport (HIAL).
The
turnkey project for Airfield Lighting involves a state-of-the-art
Individual Lamp Control and Monitoring System, which will be the first of
its kind in India. Other features
include fully frangible Approach Lighting at both ends of the runway,
Centreline Taxiway Lighting, Microprocessor CCRs, XLPE cables and high
quality Signage.
AMA
will be supplying and installing 25 Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS)
which will be controlled by a centralized Gate Operating System (GOS) at
Hyderabad Airport. The GOS will be
connected to the ACN and will be linked to the airport’s FIDs and
centralized billing system.
In
2007, AMA is also executing the following major projects:
·
Installation of lighting at Bangalore International Airport
(BIAL)
·
Turnkey installation of Taxiway Lighting and Approach
Lighting at Cochin International Airport (CIAL)
·
Turnkey airfield lighting at Belgaum Airport
·

International Airport (MIAL) and Chennai International Airport.
Since
2006, AMA has already completed other landmark projects which include:
·
Barrette Approach Lighting system including Exel’s frangible
masts at the main 27 approach at MIAL
·

Other Major Successes prior to these include:
Cat-III Lighting at Delhi:
In 2000 - 2001, AMA has executed
India's first and only turnkey Cat-III Airfield Lighting System at New
Delhi Airport. This project worth Rs. 11 crores (US$ 2.25 million) included
supply and installation of 2,800 Inset Lights, 59 Constant Current
Regulators, 2,300 Isolating Transformers and 450 kms. of Cable. AMA has
executed the project in record time despite adverse working conditions and
very limited runway availability.
In recognition of our work, we were
awarded the Annual Maintenance contract for the Cat-III system which is also the
first AMC of its kind in India.
Cat-II Lighting at Mumbai:
In 2003
AMA completed the turnkey Cat II project for Mumbai’s main runway in a
record time of 5 months. This was done well ahead of the airport’s monsoon
deadline.
The job
included dismantling of the existing lighting system and supply and
installation of 640 Inset Lights on the 09-27 runway after it had been
resurfaced.
The most
challenging aspect of the job was working on the intersection of the 09-27
main runway and the 14-32 secondary runway. While the intersection was made
available by the airport, the secondary runway was closed down and the
primary runway was severely restricted because of the reduced length. As a
result, the airport was only able to provide access to the intersection for
short periods of time. A total of 68 inset lights had to be dismantled and
new lights had to be reinstalled with secondary cables in the shortest
possible time and AMA achieved this work in less than 12 working hours.
Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS) all over India:
In 2003, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Kolkatta
Airport ordered a Visual Docking Guidance (VDG) System from the worldwide
leaders, Safegate of Sweden. The system was supplied and installled by AMA
and the feedback from the airport was most encouraging.
Based on
this success, AMA received orders from AAI for 19 Safegate VDG systems for
Mumbai, 9 systems at Delhi, 4 more systems at Kolkatta. Thereafter, India’s first private
airport, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) ordered 5 more
systems.
Safegate made all out efforts to offer the quickest
possible delivery for the Mumbai project so that ICAO's recommended
deadline of 31st December 2004 could be complied with. The 19 units were
installed at 14 aerobridges in the international terminal and 5 aerobridges
at the Indian Airlines terminal at the domestic terminal within only 5
days.
Exel’s ICAO Compliant Frangible Masts:
AMA has
worked closely with another global market leader in their field, Exel Oy of
Finland for supply and installation of Frangible Masts. In 2005, AMA
supplied and installed masts for the Cat-III 28 Approach at Indira Gandhi
International Airport at New Delhi. Exel has already supplied the first
ICAO compliant Frangible Mast system at Ahmedabad Airport a few years
earlier.
Other Significant Projects:
AMA
developed India's first and only VASI System in the early 1960s and we have
supplied over 1,000 units all over India. More recently, we have developed
India's first PAPI System which has been tested at Independent Government
laboratories for all type tests as required by ICAO, FAA and IS. We have
successfully installed and commissioned our PAPI on the primary runways at
Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Madras International Airports. We have also
supplied our PAPI units to the Airports Authority of India (International
Airports Division) for all balance primary and secondary runways, and more
than 300 Nos. PAPI units to the Airports Authority of India (National
Airports Division). We have also supplied and commissioned our PAPI systems
at over 35 stations for the Indian Air Force.
The
Indian Navy has awarded AMA five turnkey contracts for Airfield Lighting at
Naval Air Stations at Port Blair (Andaman Islands), Arkonam (Chennai), Visakhapatnam,
Goa and Cochin. Arkonam Airfield is one of the largest airfields in South
East Asia.
Cochin
International Airport Limited (CIAL) also entrusted AMA with the turnkey
installation of their CAT-I Airport Lighting System. CIAL is India's first privately
owned and funded airport.
AMA's
products for Airfield Lighting are exported to Germany, Switzerland, U.K.,
Malaysia and Italy.
AMA has
also developed a Glide Path Indicator (GPI) and other Deck Landing systems
for the Indian Navy. We have already supplied 22 GPI units to the Navy and
other shipyards in India as well as 4 systems for Indian Naval Vessels
being built in St. Petersburg and Severdovinsk, Russia.
Our
entire range of products has been tested and approved by the Directorate of
Technical Development and Production (Air), Ministry of Defence before
induction into the Military, and by CRI and other Government approved
independent labs routinely.
